In a collaboration with Italian pasta company Astrabio (Iris Bio), Koehler Paper's flexible packaging paper, which is heat-sealable and maximizes shelf life, has been used to package pasta.
Obviously, the Koehler Nexplus Seal Pure paper also protects the product inside and has strength properties that make it suitable for further processing on standard packaging machines.
Mauro Moretti, Sales Manager for Flexible Paper at Koehler Italia, said: "The 'Koehler Nexplus Seal Pure' paper packaging we offer has a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to conventional plastic packaging, and it also has the significant advantage of being recyclable and saving precious resources."
In similar news, Tesco launched home-recyclable paper packaging for its premium dry pasta range last year. The bags are said to be compatible with household recycling bins, and the retailer hopes to save more than 10 million pieces of plastic each year.
UPM Specialty Papers and Michelman have partnered to create three paper-based solutions for brand owners designed to replace multi-material, non-recyclable packaging. These structures are designed to meet the owner's food contact and recyclability requirements.
