Lidl supermarket fish tray adopts 80% rPET
Recently, European supermarket giant Lidl began to use 80% recycled rPET for all fish and meat series trays, which, together with its previously used rPET meat trays, will reduce the use of 2,116 tons of virgin plastic per year.
This move is in line with Lidl's global REset plastic strategy. The company plans to reduce 30% of plastic in its own brands by 2025, use at least 25% recycled materials, and fully transform to recyclable plastics. In the past 7 years, Lidl claims that it has reduced 30% of plastic in the products it sells, and will continue to expand the reduction in the future.
Mars Wrigley's 100rPET packaging in the Chinese market
Crisp The lid of the bowl packaging of Xiangmi Chocolate has been converted to 100% rPET, which is also the first product packaging containing 100% rPET launched by the brand in the Chinese market.
From a visual and tactile point of view, the new bowl lid is almost the same as the old bowl lid, and the new bowl lid packaging is expected to reduce the use of 36 tons of virgin plastic per year.
As more and more countries and regions pass legislation to require the use of recycled plastics as packaging materials, this trend has expanded to many fields including food contact plastic packaging. Since 2022, the negotiation process of the United Nations Environmental Convention has accelerated, aiming to reach a legally binding international instrument on an international scale from multiple levels such as material selection, product design and regulatory mechanisms. The INC5 (Fifth Meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee), which has attracted global attention, will be held in Busan, South Korea next month. It is expected that the final instrument produced by this meeting will be open to representatives of various countries for signature in May next year, and it is stipulated that it will officially take effect 90 days after the receipt of the 50th instrument of ratification.
